InfoQ: Progress Software Acquires IONA and Mindreef PDF Print E-mail

In the last two weeks, Progress software acquired two companies: IONA Technologies and Mindreef, in an effort to augment their SOA Portfolio.

The portfolio consists of products in the following categories: enterprise service bus (Sonic ESB), enterprise messaging (Sonic MQ), data interoperability (DataXtend), Mainframe integration (Shadow), Complex Event Processing (Apama)  and SOA management (Actional). IONA, an industry leader in CORBA integration technology, sells the Artix SOA infrastructure product suite consisting of an ESB, SOA Registry, orchestration engine, mainframe integration and metadata management. It also offers open source SOA integration components through its FUSE product line.

Mindreef is the maker of SOAPscope, a popular SOAP quality, testing, and diagnostic suite.  ...  As for the Mindreef acquisition, Progress will add SOAPscope to the Actional product line, its SOA governance family. This really is the market-building consolidation that Rob Hailstone writes about.

William Vambenepe an architect for the application and middleware management part of Oracle’s Enterprise Manager division says that "[the Mindreef acquisition] is yet another confirmation of the fact that testing and IT management are getting ever closer together".

Dan Foody VP of Actional Products at Progress Software says "By bringing together Mindreef and Actional we're doing what's only natural - removing the artificial dividing line between design time and runtime, addressing the complete SOA lifecycle with technologies that are leaders in both."  ...

Mindreef Releases Version 6.2 of the SOAPscope Server Product Family PDF Print E-mail
Mindreef is pleased to announce the availability of Version 6.2 of the SOAPscope Server product family -- SOAPscope Server, SOAPscope Architect, SOAPscope Developer, and SOAPscope Tester. You can use assertion operators other than "=" to compare expected values with actual test response values to further automate functional and performance testing.
  • Pus a number of bug fixes that have been carried forward from SOAPscope Server 6.1.

HOLLIS – Software company Mindreef has been acquired by Progress Software of Bedford, Mass.

Mindreef will adopt the company name, but Progress expects to keep most of Mindreef's product names.

Mindreef was a privately held company, so the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Support and service of Mindreef products will be uninterrupted and will continue to be handled through the existing Mindreef channels, according to a statement from the company. ...

Progress Software has bought Mindreef, a maker of software tools for implementing service-oriented architectures (SOAs), says Information Week.

Last week, it announced its interest to buy Iona Technologies, a data integration software maker, for $162 million.

Mindreef said support and services would continue uninterrupted, and the company was working with Progress Software in aligning product direction and roadmaps. There were no plans to eliminate products, Mindreef said. ...

Progress Software has acquired for an undisclosed sum New Hampshire-based service-oriented architecture tools vendor Mindreef.

Mindreef will adopt Progress's name while retaining the product names for most of its products. Mindreef offerings include SOAPscope brand of products, which enable analysts, architects, application developers, and testers to collaborate in building, deploying, and maintaining SOA software.

Progress said it will gain access to more than 3,000 of Mindreef's customers at more than 1,200 organizations worldwide.
